PRODUCTION

During my production stages, the technology that was integrated most significantly was HARDWARE

HARDWARE

The main integration of technology during the production period in my film making process was the use of hardware in particular.

During my production stage, myself and my production group use a variety of four main hardware products whilst filming our opening title sequence; we used the Black Magic 4K mini-URSA, Sennheiser Shotgun mic, Lexar pro memory card and the Vinten Tripod. Specifically looking into the Black Magic 4k mini-URSA to film our sequence, in particular this hardware product was integrated into the production day to create the video clips which were later assessed and assembled in post-production.

The camera that we used was accompanied by the use of the Vinten Tripod, whereby the camera was assembled upon to capture the shots successfully. For instance, during the final sequence, when the camera pans from a shot of one of the hunters walking, past a tree and then on Daisy, we used the tripod to essentially track the height level of the hunter far away whilst still getting the correct height for Daisy during the pan. We were able to adapt the height of the tripod by loosening the grips at the legs of the tripod and lowering or heightening the tripods legs depending on the nature of the shot. When we wanted the shots to be at a low angle to show status of the hunters especially at the beginning and the daisy during the ending shot, we used a much lower angle of shot with the tripod.

Each shot was also accompanied by the use of the Sennheiser Shotgun mic, which was positioned by hand as close to the action as possible to achieve the best sound possible which could then late be adjusted when editing during post-production. An example of when we had to adjust the sound frequency later on in post-production when during the ‘death’ scene of the first girl; in this instance, the mic was positioned very closely to Zaza at the time of her screaming which was extremely loud when it came to looking at the shots and sound in post-production which is why we had to adjust the volume. During production, we also used another camera to acquire ‘stills’ from the shoot day in order to assure sufficient photos for post-production campaigns and marketing for instance when creating the poster for the sequence.

We used an EOS DSLR Canon camera, whereby Cole took photographs of each actor and during the shoot to get authentic action shots of our actors which benefitted our post-production stage immensely.

ONLINE

Online integration during the production stages of my overall process was limited due to the physical nature of this period in particular, however, in order to communicate sufficiently during the shoot day in order to prepare fully, we used the online technology of WhatsApp in order to stay connected and up to date with any changes. This benefitted hugely when discussing the whereabouts of our actors, discussing the timings of the day and even sending footage that each member of our production group acquired during the shoot day.

SOFTWARE

Again, due to the physicalised nature of the shoot day, the integration of software within this stage was limited and thus we only used one type of software technology briefly during the day of the shoot; I-movie. We used I-movie during production period in two manners; firstly, to reflect from our test shoot beforehand in order to remind ourselves what worked well and what didn’t work well by watching the test shoot back as a visual reminder. Secondly, in order to create a behind the scenes, we used I-movie to accumulate all of the footage that we shared using WhatsApp and that we took with our own hardware technologies, using our I-phones and the EOS DSLR Canon camera, in order to accumulate enough footage to create a BTS of our shoot day to visually show the development of our production journey.
