PRE-PRODUCTION

During the pre-production stages within my development, I focused mainly on researching and planning out essential aspects of the opening title sequence using mainly online technologies to achieve this.

ONLINE

Using the online technology of YouTube, I used this application in order to research into various products and skills that were applicable to later production stages; for instance, when researching into similar products and conventions I used You tube to watch various clips, trailers and films to defer the types of conventions. I applied this use of online technology in integrating the similar products that I had researched, for example the product, ‘The Hunt’ shares comparable traits with narrative conventions and are therefore too integrated within my own product, ‘This is The Day’. I used You Tube to analyse the key conventions that the product follows by pausing and inspecting the scene/ moment in full detail.

I also used the online technology of IMDB to exceed my similar conventions research specifically when looking into the genres and the context of the films, distribution and production companies. When looking into the key information, I used the online technology IMDB to research further into these qualities that I used for my research. For instance, IMDB show the age rating, reviews, audiences, ways the film was distributed, trailers, cast, creatives, directors, production companies, distribution companies as well as the date of release. This was an extremely applicable research method to use for multiple blog posts during pre-production for example when looking into target audiences for my thriller, opening title sequence, I used the guidance of similar products to then set my own age rating by using the rating by demographic compartment of IMDB.

When looking into the specifics of the titles due to my brief being an opening title sequence, I used the online technology ‘Art of The Title’ to research further into the difference in title fonts, colours, placement, art that differ from genre to genre and how they communicate the specific conventions within a certain product. I used this online technology alongside IMDB to infer the films content and then look further into the titles used during the opening of the film. For instance, when looking into Saul and Elaine Bass, I use both technologies by researching into their title design in Hitchcock's, ‘North By Northwest’. By using IMDB to look into the films key themes of exploring the use of crossroads to infer characters relationships and motifs, then translating this research into the films use of titles in exploring these themes through the online website ‘The Art of the Title’.  Using this research method to apply to my own productions use of titles, I chose to incorporate ‘Hitchcock's’ iconic stylised big font and bright colours to establish the sense of thrill and action within my own product.

Now specifically using the online technology of Blogger, I have accumulated all of my research and planning from various of other online platforms and translated this across to Blogger. By using this online platform to post by film making journey, I was able to reflect back onto past workshops and research when moving on to both my production and pre-production stages in my journey and was able to integrate this knowledge to help the success of my final opening title sequence. For instance, when moving forward to shooting my sequence in the production stage, I used this online platform to remind myself upon the camera workshops that I had previously posted to refresh my knowledge from this past research.

HARDWARE

Integrating hardware into the pre-production stage within my developmental journey, I used a MacBook Pro whereby I was able to use the software and online platforms within this hardware during my research and planning periods. Fo instance, using the MacBook, I was able to use the software application in my laptop of Word to write up all of my research and planning which I then later translated onto the online application, Blogger.

Another key hardware product that I heavily used during my pre-production stages, was my iPhone 11. I specifically used the software of Facetime and I message from this hardware to communicate my ideas and planning information with my production group which worked effectively during this key stage of my journey overall.

When working on the MacBook hardware and the software's of word and other online applications, I also integrated into this stage the hardware of apple headphones to listen to music with when working on these applications to better my concertation during the research and planning period.

SOFTWARE

When integrating software applications during my pre-production research and planning stage, I relied on the documentation application, Word, to create most if not all of my research and planning work. For instance, when researching into the similar products and conventions of my own product, I relied on online platforms when researching and then translating this research that I had found into blogger and another software applications such as Google Slides.

Using the software Google Slides, I integrated my research via word into this software application, enabling me to create visually clear and stimulating information. For instance, when pitching my concept ideas via planning and researching, I used this software to present my ideas for an opening title sequence which I used alongside various other online application such as You Tube.

Another key software that I used during my pre-production period was the application of I-movie to make my own test shoot in preparation for me and my production groups shoot day; using this software, I integrated specifically the review of using this application to then help the shoot day during production. To use this application, me and my production group worked collaboratively in inserting the videos we have taken and then editing them via the software's applications and cutting them to produce the basis of our opening title sequence.
